The Ecuadorian Amazon Jungle
Live a life of luxury in some of the most
pristine jungles on earth.
Wildlife isn’t the only biodiversity the Amazon has to offer, but its gastronomy perfectly reflects the astonishing variety in this part of the jungle. Experience the vibrant taste of exotic flavors prepared in both modern and traditional dishes including the intriguing dish, chontocuro, worms that grow in the Palm of Chonta. They are usually eaten roasted on skewers but they are also sold live. Other dishes include ceviche made with the heart of palms. Ceviche is a delicious way to consume the hearts of palm. Since its ingredients include lemon juice, red onions, chili, and tomato, among others, which are light to consume and ideal for vegetarian visitors.
Ecuador’s rich history and diverse geography have helped forge cultural identities within communities in the Amazon rainforest. Ecuador’s indigenous Amazon peoples have a variety of cultures, languages, and traditions. Home to the Siona, Secoya, Cofan, Shuar, Zaparo, Huaorani, and Kichwa, among others, Ecuador’s Amazon peoples have largely preserved their cultures throughout centuries of conquest by the Inca and the Spanish. There are still two known uncontacted tribes living in the Amazon in Ecuador: the Taromenane and the Tagaeri. These groups are composed of only a few hundred individuals, and their rights to live in isolation and free from contact in the Ecuador Amazon are protected by the constitution.
The Amazon offers many adventures for those who came to explore. You can take a guided hike during the day or at night and learn about the various species that call this area home. From deep in the Amazon at Yasuni National Park to the backpacker town of Tena, there is so much to see and do in the Ecuador jungle, like wildlife tours that give visitors a chance to see hundreds of species in one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. In addition to traditional nature and wildlife tours, Tena is a popular destination for rafting through the Amazon, some of the most unforgettable Amazon tours Ecuador has to offer.
While Ecuador is one of the smallest countries in South America, its slice of the Amazon rainforest is anything but secondary, making the country one of the best places to visit the Amazon to experience breathtaking nature.
