We had a fabulous holiday in Peru!

The itinerary met all of our expectations and was executed with professionalism throughout by the various agencies providing services. We were especially pleased with the breathtaking scenery (no pun intended) of the Andes and opportunity to visit many spectacular ruins along the Inca Trail. The personalized attention by the porters, chef, and guide from Llama Path made the experience even better—including special Mother’s Day meals prepared by our chef, Rene. The most difficult part of the trek was saying goodbye to the wonderful staff!

Holdger (our guide through the various Sacred Valley and Cuzco area activities) masterfully provided historical and cultural context as we visited each site. We enjoyed his company very much, and especially appreciated Holdger’s patience in answering our endless stream of questions about Peru. It was a wonderful learning experience! We also want to acknowledge our driver, Luis, for his stellar service in awaiting our arrival at the Puchar train station despite an unforeseen bus strike resulting in the main roads to Cuzco being closed.

Visiting Inkaterra Reserve was a highlight of our trip as well. The activities were informative and well executed by the guides, although the muddy trails were a bit challenging at times. The accommodations were very nice although some aspects of the facility were showing signs of aging (such as the suspension bridges through the jungle canopy). That said, we eagerly took a second trip through the canopy when asked by one of the guides! The food was good and the service friendly.

Our time along the northern coast was very informative and also gave us the opportunity to see daily life in a Peruvian city. The staff at Los Portales, however, was somewhat rude, presumably because of our feeble Spanish language skills. Getting laundry service was also problematic at this hotel but our guide came through in taking us to a local business instead. As hoped, we visited sites that connected the timeline of civilizations existing prior to the rise of the Inca. Admittedly, it was disappointing not to see the Sipan site but understandable due to the civil unrest in the area. The Sipan museum is among the finest collections of artifacts we have ever seen! The car trip from Chiclayo to Trujillo was a bit long, but the visit to El Brujo made it worthwhile. Trujillo offered some outstanding ruins (Chan Chan was incredible) and the Moche ceramics were mesmerizing. We also had a fantastic lunch at Big Ben!

Although we were a bit travel weary by the end of our trip, it was definitely worthwhile seeing downtown Lima—good way to spend the few remaining hours without sitting in an airport!

Our sincere thanks to you, Jenny, for an outstanding trip!
