Wake up for your morning flight to Cusco. We will be waiting for you when touch down at our Andean airport and before you can feel the altitude, we’ll whisk you into the Sacred Valley.
True Peruvian countryside will stretch away on either side of you, cows and sheep grazing tranquilly roadside. Impossibly steep peaks rise in the distance. Your journey will take you to the Ccochahuasi Animal Sanctuary, a family run private organization, dedicated to rescuing and looking after animals who need special care. Upon conclusion of your visit we’ll bring you to your hotel in the heart of the Sacred Valley.
Our first stop will be at the traditional market of Pisac where vendors come from miles around to peddle their wares. Next, continue up the mountain in your private vehicle to the ruins above, where you’ll learn about the complexity of the Incan agricultural system, their methods of cultivating thousands of varieeties of corn and potatoes. After a fresh, gourmet lunch, and receive a safety briefing on the harnesses and helmets that will become like your second skin tonight. Masterfully climb your way up what seems like sheer cliff face, using steel rungs as your guide. After a 400m ascent you’ll arrive to your one-of-a-kind luxury hotel for the evening – a glass pod dangling off the cliff face, providing 300-degree views of the Sacred Valley below you!
Marvel at the thousands of stars visible above you – you might even call this a thousand-star hotel – and tuck yourself in to your comfy bed complete with a real mattress and cozy down comforter.
Wake up to one of the best views ever and look around you – did you forget you slept hundreds of meters in the air in a capsule bolted to a cliff? Enjoy an al fresco breakfast and get ready to zip back down the mountain. Through six zip lines criss-crossing the path you took yesterday, you’ll return to the valley floor.
Following lunch we will take you to the ancient town of Ollantaytambo, one of the few remaining places in Peru that retains its original Incan urban planning. You’ll note still-functioning street canals, multi-family houses with secret interior courtyards and iconic Incan trapezoidal doors!
Today, prepare to walk in the footsteps of the Inca and arrive proudly on-foot to Machu Picchu! We’ll board the Vistadome train in Ollantaytambo, disembarking at the Inca Trail trailhead found at Kilometer 104, and from here you will walk the lovely uphill path to the ruins of Wiñaywayna. As you walk, your guide will point out orchids and other jungle plants, the Urubamba River will rush below you, and you’ll marvel at the Inca’s strength and ingenuity.
Finally your journey will bring you to Inti Punku, the famous Sun Gate. You’ll approach this stone construction up one last flight of stairs, catch your breath, and then lose it again as you see Machu Picchu, nestled and hidden between steep peaks below you.
Descend triumphantly over ancient paving stones to the lost citadel, before catching the bus to Aguas Calientes and checking in to your hotel. Your guide will then leave you to rest, refresh, and enjoy a delicious and well-earned dinner on-site.
Board the bus to the entrance to one of the World Wonders. Ascend stone steps, through heavy tree cover to finally emerge at the top of the world – Machu Picchu! Your expert guide will give you a private tour of the ancient city, introducing you to the history of this spectacular citadel and showing you the most important temples and ceremonial sites.
Later, descend to Aguas Calientes for lunch and your return Vistadome train. We will be waiting to collect you in the Ollantaytambo train station and will bring you to your hotel for the evening.
Wake up with a gleam in your eye, for a day of adventure lies ahead! We’ll whisk you over the hills surrounding Cusco into the beautiful purple countryside beyond. You’ll pass fields with grazing cows and sheep, tended by women in full skirts and traditional braids, adobe houses and colonial churches. Enjoy the feeling of freedom in the country air! In Chuquiqahuana you will receive a safety briefing with procedures for your adventure on the Upper Urubamba River, working together to prepare the equipment and inflate the rafts before gearing up and climbing in.
And then it’s in to the water! You’ll spend three hours negotiating the river as a team and taking in the stunning scenery – dry mountains, green fields, small farmsteads, and incredibly big blue sky. You’ll even take on class III and class IV rapids, so prepare to get a little wet!
This morning experience the lay of the land as only true world travelers know how: on foot traversing hidden alleyways, historic plazas, and local treasures. Your private guide will proceed to illuminate Cusco’s rich tapestry woven by its inviting cobblestone streets, charming neighborhoods, and astounding landmarks.
Upon conclusion of your tour your guide will leave you with suggestions as to where you find a delicious, local lunch! This afternoon fly to Lima and enjoy time at leisure to explore the City of Kings on your terms!
This morning walk through colonial Lima, including the Plaza Mayor, featuring the current President’s palace, the Convent of San Francisco (including subterranean catacombs!), and Casa Aliaga, which is the western hemisphere’s oldest mansion and still owned and inhabited by the 17th generation of the Aliaga family.
In the early evening enjoy an award-winning culinary tour. Along with viewing various cultural highlights of Lima and sampling goodies from world-renowned restaurants, you’ll enjoy a pisco sour demonstration with a beachfront view, learn how to prepare your own citrusy Ceviche, and sample fruit straight from the Amazon.
This morning board your flight to Puerto Maldonado. The Rainforest Expeditions team will be waiting for you when touch down at the small jungle airport, as you travel deep into the jungle by boat, the forest getting thicker, bird cries becoming more noticeable. A river journey just over two hours will take you through local communities and then the “buffer zone” of the 1.3 million hectare Tambopata National Reserve. Keep a vigilant eye peeled for wildlife on the riverbanks!
After supper, head into the forest for a twilight excursion, armed with flashlights and headlamps. Witness the transformation to a nocturnal world: animals and birds of the daytime give way to species specially adapted to the night.
Today take a 3 to 5 Km hike to overlooks that offer magnificent views of the Tambopata Reserve winding its way into the lowlands. The forest on this trail is great for all kinds of mammals, especially Howler and Dusky Titi Monkeys. Return to the lodge for dinner, after which you will receive a lecture, taking an in-depth look at Macaws. The lecture is given by local scientists and experts housed at the lode, giving you the chance to discover all there is to know about this fascinating bird: it´s biology, feeding habits, breeding, and population fluctuations.
Start the day by exploring the Macaw clay lick. On most clear mornings dozens of large macaws and hundreds of parrots congregate in a raucous and colourful spectacle. You will visit at dawn, when the lick is most active, and will get the chance to observe Green-winged, Scarlet and Blue-and-gold macaws.
Later activities including hiking on the Floodplain trail, a 5km trek that covers the tropical rainforest with huge trees, creeks and ponds, searching for squirrel and spider monkeys, as well as peccaries; and hiking to the Pond Platform, a vantage point in the middle of a tiny pond from where you can spot waterfowl and other kinds of animals.
During the later morning you will set off along the Terra Firme Trail, giving you a taste of an entirely distinct habitat characterized by smaller, thinner trees atop hills and slopes and you will have the chance to spot wildlife native to this area, such as Saddleback tamarins.
After lunch you will venture out to the Palm Swamp Tower. A thirty minute hike will bring you to the palm swamp where dead aguaje palms serve as nests for Red-bellied and Blue-and-gold Macaws. An elevated boardwalk and scaffolding tower allows for eye level observation of the birds as they fly in and out of the nests.
After breakfast, the Tambopata Research Center team will escort you back to Puerto Maldonado, retracing your boat journey through the Amazon. After flying to Lima, Your Kuoda host will meet you and bring you the hotel connected to the airport where you can relax while you wait for your international flight.
While at the hotel, we will have a medical staff visit in order to administer the Covid test, with results being available within the hour, ready for your flight home.
