Itinerary

Welcome to Colombia!

When your flight arrives in Bogota, we will meet you at the airport and personally escort you to the hotel. Instead of navigating a new city after a long flight, let us take care of the transportation logistics. Spend the evening at your hotel where you can refresh and enjoy a peaceful evening before your adventure begins. Be sure to get a good night’s rest before exploring Bogota in the morning.

Go birding in La Florida before your Bogota city tour

As the sun begins to rise at 5 AM, we’ll pick you up at the hotel for a birding tour to La Florida Regional Park. La Florida is a wetland in the western area the Bogota, where you will have the opportunity to see the native urban bird species found in the capital city, such as the Bogota Rail, Apolinar’s Wren, and Noble Snipe.

After visiting La Florida, take a moment at your hotel to rest your feet and enjoy some free time. Then, at 2 PM, the exciting city tour continues as we set off to see the most iconic sites in Bogota’s historic city center. You’ll get a chance to explore the Gold Museum, Monserrate, and Botero Museum before walking through the historic neighborhood of La Candelaria. Be sure to get a good night’s sleep, because day three of your luxury Colombia tour starts bright and early.

Explore Chingaza Natural Park and La Calera

Early in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel and head to Chingaza Natural Park, an excellent bird-watching destination about just 2 hours outside of Bogota. Get ready for 4 hours of exploration in Chingaza, with an expert guide leading the way through the park. See what unique species you can spot here – you may get a chance to see the majestic Andean Condor, the world’s largest bird!

After Chingaza, we will head to La Calera to visit a beautiful hummingbird observatory. Watch these colorful creatures flit around the quaint courtyard of a grand old observatory snuggled between the mountains. You’ll also enjoy a delectable, traditional Colombian lunch, where you will learn a little more about the local culture. When today’s adventure concludes, we will take you back to Bogota and drop you off at your hotel.

Jardin Encantado / Honda city tour

After breakfast, we will head to San Francisco, a small town located about 1.5 hours from Bogota. There, we will visit Jardin Encantado, a beautiful house where you will observe various species of hummingbirds. Test your expertise and see if you can tell this unique species apart from the birds that fluttered around La Calera.

In the latter half of the day, we will make our way to Honda, an important riverport town. The sunny town was critical to Colombia’s development thanks to its proximity to the Magdalena River. We’ll stop to find some lunch, then take a tour of the charming historic center, where you will investigate the charming colonial buildings and tranquil town squares.

Cuchilla de Bellavista / Laguna de Guarinocito

Get excited for another early morning adventure as we head to Cuchilla de Bellavista, located in the small town of Victoria and about 1 hour from Honda. Spend the morning with a tranquil bird spotting session in the temperate, humid forest. Around noon, enjoy a break while digging into some lunch.

After the break, we will head to Laguna de Guarinocito, which is located about 30 minutes from Victoria. Climb aboard for a boat ride to the lagoon, where we’ll have the opportunity to see more than 90 bird species. At the end of the day, you will return to Honda to rest in your comfortable hotel.

Travel to El Paujil for hiking and birding

After breakfast, we will begin the road trip to El Paujil Reserve, located about 5 hours from Honda. After arriving at this nature reserve, we will eat lunch and take a break to relax amidst the beautiful scenery.

During the afternoon, we will take a short hike through the reserve to begin our spotting excursion, looking for the 360 registered bird species. Among these species, 7 species are endemic, 8 are near-endemic and 8 are endangered.

A day of birding in El Paujil

Early in the morning, we will continue birding in the reserve. We will have some time for lunch, then continue our immersive natural adventure in the afternoon.

Morning birding in El Paujil / Afternoon travel to Rio Claro

Take your final birding tour through El Paujil Reserve in the morning, catching the last glimpses of the unique species that make this park their home. After eating lunch, we will drive for about 4 hours to reach our next destination, the Rio Claro Reserve.

After arriving at Rio Claro you can enjoy some rest time to kick up your feet and take in the sights. Thanks to its unique location and micro-climates that facilitate different habitats, you will have the chance to see a large variety of bird species, including the Colombian Chachalaca, White-mantled Barbet, Beautiful Woodpecker, and Sooty Ant-Tanager.

A day of birding in Rio Claro

Early in the morning, we will continue birding in the reserve. We will have some time for lunch, then continue our immersive natural adventure in the afternoon.

Morning birding in Rio Claro before traveling to Medellin

Savor your final birding tour through Rio Claro Reserve in the morning. After a lunch break, we will travel to Medellin, located about 3 hours from Rio Claro. We will drop you off at the hotel in Medellin and you will have the rest of the night to relax or explore the “City of Eternal Spring” on your own.

Medellin city tour

Today’s adventure will be an exciting private city tour of Medellin. You will visit the most interesting parts of this urban bohemia, including Plaza Botero and the Botero Museum. You will also get a chance to ride the Medellin metro and visit Comuna 13, a neighborhood that has been transformed by street art and turned into a hub for creatives.
