Itinerary

Welcome to Colombia!

When your flight arrives in Bogota, a Kuoda host will welcome you personally and escort you to the hotel. Instead of navigating a new city after a long flight, let us take care of the transportation logistics. We will drop you off at your hotel so you can refresh and enjoy a peaceful evening before your romantic honeymoon experience begins. Relax with a good night’s rest before exploring Bogota in the morning.

Enjoy a private city tour of Bogota

During your private tour of Colombia’s capital city, you will start at the Paloquemao market, abundant with fresh food and flowers. This market also offers great insight into the life and customs of local Bogotans. Next, head to La Candelaria which is Bogota’s heart and soul. This is the oldest neighborhood in the city, and the Plaza Bolivar is a must-see while traveling here.

Next, your guide will escort you to the Gold Museum, home to one of the finest collections of Pre-Hispanic gold artifacts in the world. With more than 35,000 pieces of pre-Colombian gold works in the collection, this museum offers a fascinating look into the history of the region. Be sure to view the golden raft, which is one of the most important pieces on display, and was the driving force in the Spaniard’s quest to find El Dorado.

Chicaque National Park

Chicaque Natural Park is a stunning cloud-forest reserve just half an hour from southern Bogota. Here, you will be met by your bilingual guide and escorted to this mountainous park with dozens of scenic trails. The park has been dedicated to the provision of eco tourism since 1990 and the cloud forest protected by the park has an amazing biodiversity of flora and fauna including an extensive array of plant life, bird life, and over 20 different mammal species. Here, you can explore oak forests, waterfalls, and spectacular viewpoints as you traverse some of the 10 miles of track and pathways through the park. The walks vary in length from between 25 minutes to 2 hours depending on your requirements and ability.

Flight to the Jungle of Colombia

This morning, the Kuoda team will escort you to the airport for your flight to Leticia in the Amazon region of the country. The Amazon River runs through the Amazon jungle and is a lifeline for so many species and humans alike. The river provides water, fishing, and habitat and without it, many thousands of people and a far greater number of species of birdlife, mammals, and marine life would not exist today. From its humble source in the Peruvian Andes to its immensity at the Atlantic coast of Brazil this giant eco-system is truly one of the natural world’s greatest marvels.

Amacayacu National Park

Deep in the Amazon Rainforest lies Colombia’s largest stretch of Amazon, Amacayacu National Park. This morning, we take a tour of Matamata brook that links with Amacayacu National Park, searching for wildlife along the trails. From there, a canoe will pick you up to go back to Calanoa.
In the afternoon you will visit El Vergel to meet a group of kids that are taking back traditional indigenous Ticuna songs and dances – it will truly be an experience to remember!

Mocagua Community / Wildlife Spotting

The people that live in the jungle are its beating heart and as important to the local ecosystem as the jungle itself. Today you will visit a local indigenous community; the Mocagua community is very proud of their culture and connection to the jungle and are happy to share the experience they have with visitors. You will have a chance to visit this local community, learn about their way of life and interact with them as you start to understand how this delicate ecosystem all fits together.

After a local lunch, there will be some time spent observing the river and local wildlife, there is an opportunity to engage in some local fishing if you like, then it’s time to hit the river once again. The idea this afternoon is to spot the famous pink river dolphins that inhabit this region. These mystical and graceful creatures are amazing to watch as they move up and down the river.

You will learn about these wonderful marine mammals and the stories the locals tell of them. Then late afternoon it’s back to the lodge to rest and have dinner.

Flight to the Coffee Region

In the morning, we will escort you to the airport for your flight to Armenia where you will get to explore Colombia’s famous coffee region.

For many people, this is the cultural epicenter of Colombia. With every turn, a spectacular panorama view unfolds before your eyes, from the rolling hillsides of fertile coffee plantations to plunging valleys and bold elevations. Staying in one of the many fincas or haciendas provides an opportunity to get a feel for the ambiance and harmony of the land while enjoying some well-deserved rest.

Exploring the Coffee Region

Today’s tour takes you on a culturally rich journey through the coffee region and soaking up the natural beauty of the Cocora Valley. Over the course of two days, you will explore all that Quindío has to offer. Sip some of the finest coffee in the world while enjoying a tour of one of the local plantations.

Then, it’s onto Valle Cocora where the magnificent Wax Palm grows. This majestic landscape offers views you can only imagine, like something out of a movie. Part of the wider Parque Nacional Los Nevados, the valley is located on the eastern limits of Quindío along the central Andean range. While hiking through the lush, rolling terrain, couples will feel nothing but gratitude that they got to share this experience together.

Bamboo Boating Along the River

Just 12 miles northwest of Armenia to reach the town of Quimbaya, today you will navigate the river on slow-moving bamboo as you gaze upon the soft mountainous landscape of Quindío. You will be picked up by your guide at the hotel this morning, and continue on a 45-minute drive to the starting point of our activity. The river where you will be venturing today is a 33-mile-long river known as Rio La Vieja.

You will have the opportunity to explore the coffee region from a different perspective and cruise downstream on bamboo boats, whilst spotting wildlife on the riverbanks. There will be a stop for a typical lunch before you return to the hotel.

Bid farewell to Colombia

Going home is the worst part of any private Colombia vacation, but at Kuoda, we’ll do our best to make it as smooth and hassle-free as possible. We’ll bring you to the airport for your return flight for the journey home. Buen Viaje!
