How To Have An Unforgettable Galapagos Honeymoon: The Best Plan To Get You There

How to Have an Unforgettable Galapagos Honeymoon: The Best Plan to Get You There

The best honeymoons tend to happen in the most unexpected of places. One such place is the Galapagos Islands, the very remote spot that sparked Darwin’s understanding of evolution. The Galapagos is the world’s most unique string of islands off the coast of the exciting country of Ecuador, smack dab in the Pacific Ocean. A Galapagos honeymoon. Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?

This 19-island archipelago shelters just about 4,000 animal species, 40% of which are entirely endemic to this area. The wildest part just might be that these animals do not hide from humans, but in fact, are pretty indifferent to our visits and presence because we have done a very good job protecting them. The Galapagos Islands became a UNESCO Natural Heritage Site in 1978.

In addition to the incredible wildlife, your custom-designed honeymoon in the Galapagos will inspire countless stories and wonderful memories you can relive with loved ones for years to come. Here, we share our top tips for a genuinely unforgettable Galapagos honeymoon, snorkeling with Ariel’s friends, hiking through lava fields, and luxuriating in the balcony suite of your one-of-a-kind cruise (to name just a few possibilities off the bat!)

What is the best time of year to take your honeymoon in the Galapagos?

BEST TIME OF YEAR TO TAKE YOUR HONEYMOON IN THE GALAPAGOS

There is really no wrong time to visit the Galapagos! This leaves you with plenty of options and may provide some relief if other aspects of your wedding planning become too stressful. Something you will want to keep in mind is planning your honeymoon to the Galapagos about 5-6 months in advance, or more, if possible, to guarantee you reserve the best cruise or island-hopping program.

Weather variations year-round do happen; however, they are very slight. You will never battle close to freezing temperatures nor deal with torrential downpours, for example. And the temperature in the Galapagos never drops below mid-60s F, even in the austral winter months of June, July, and August. You are also guaranteed at the very least 3 hours of clear skies per day and at the most 8!

Also, if you are really keen on seeing specific wildlife such as nesting green sea turtles, albatrosses, penguins or flamingos, or baby sea lions, let our travel designers know. They will make sure you’re traveling at the right time. You will be able to see the full range of Galapagos wildlife year-round. However, there are specific times of year in which certain animals are more active than usual.

You can also plan your Galapagos honeymoon to coincide with some exciting events on the Ecuador mainland if you hope to take a 2-week getaway. For instance, Ecuador’s Carnival is one of the country’s most coveted and exciting celebrations, taking place in late February or early March based on the Roman Catholic calendar. You can enjoy 1-2 days of spirited Carnival in Quito before flying to the peaceful Galapagos for some exciting contrast.

What to do on a Galapagos honeymoon?

Well, the possibilities are almost endless! You can stay in some of the world’s most exclusive beachside hotels, surf alongside curious sea lions, marvel at the bustling ocean ecosystem in a transparent kayak, or through your snorkel goggles, hike through fields of giant cactuses and lava tunnels, and have an authentic experience with thousands of marine iguanas that exist nowhere else in the world!

We really could go on and on, but we want to narrow down our list to five of the most coveted activities and considerations to heighten your private journey and honeymoon to the Galapagos. We hope you don’t just take our word for it and discover for yourselves why The Galapagos offers an idyllic honeymoon haven to savor your first official days as partners for life!

Take a Galapagos cruise

A Galapagos cruise is unlike any other. For starters, the maximum number of days (8) doesn’t seem like too many when compared to multi-week large cruise lines elsewhere in the world. In fact, the largest Galapagos cruise only accommodates 100 people, and the smallest 16. In addition, you can choose between a luxury or first-class yacht or catamaran for more stability if you suffer from motion sickness.

The Galapagos cruises we work with have fixed itineraries for as few as four days, up to six days, and as many as eight. So even if you don’t have the time to embark on an eight-day cruise, you can still visit some unparalleled spots in the archipelago and witness the incredible wildlife.

Spend a couple nights in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno

Puerto Baquerizo

Either at the beginning or the tail end of your Galapagos cruise, we urge you to consider spending a couple additional days in the Galapagos’ main port town called Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. Here in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristobal Island, you have your pick of a couple different luxurious five-star hotels. To name just two of our favorites, The Golden Bay Hotel and Casa Opuntia will pamper you to the fullest!

Experience truly unique wildlife

Galapagos wildlife

Have you ever heard of a red-footed booby? How about a blue-footed booby or the Nazca booby? Are you intrigued? These boobies are quirky bird species that thrive in the Galapagos, and their name is derived from the Spanish word “bobo,” meaning clown, thanks to the funny way they clown about on their colorful webbed feet.

In addition to boobies, giant tortoises, playful sea lions, majestic stingrays, stealthy sharks, and statuesque iguanas of all shapes and sizes will make a guest appearance at your Galapagos honeymoon. And because all of these animals are carefully protected, they don’t recognize humans as a threat. You will be able to swim and snorkel amongst all of the above – while keeping a respectful distance, of course!

Live your most romantic moment with unparalleled scenery

LIVE YOUR MOST ROMANTIC MOMENT

The scenery alone will knock your socks off and live in the heart of your most romantic shared moments! In particular, Santa Cruz Island, San Cristobal Island, Isabela Island, and Puerto Ayora claim some of the most ethereal beaches. The Galapagos’ unique ecosystems include white, green, black, and even red beaches! And the best part? These beaches won’t be entirely flooded with people.

Enjoy a luxurious and personalized experience

ENJOY A LUXURIOUS AND PERSONALIZED EXPERIENCE

A honeymoon travel experience doesn’t get much more personalized than a curated journey to the Galapagos Islands, especially when planned in advance. If you can plan your honeymoon up to a year in advance, you will have more options to handpick your cruise or hotel according to what type of wildlife you’re most interested in seeing, how many days you have, and how active you are.
