Work Strike in Cusco - May 2017

We just received news there is a local strike planned for this May 30th and 31st in the Urubamba and Ollantaytambo areas of the Sacred Valley in Peru, due to local politics and the recent ground-breaking of a new airport in the Chinchero area.  Local strikes sometimes cause blocked roads and delays in transit, and they can be a nuisance for those of us who make it our job to ensure timely and efficient itineraries for luxury travelers.

PeruRail, the company in charge of all trains to and from Machu Picchu, will shortly be issuing an official memo regarding their timetables and if they anticipate any of their scheduled departures will be altered in any way due to the strike. We have thoroughly reviewed all of our current itineraries and have made a few tiny tweaks here and there (our currently traveling guests have already been informed), and we are ready and waiting for news from PeruRail in case we need to adjust anything else.

Our entire trusty team of guides, drivers, hosts, and our dear Kuoda Family in the Cusco office are working together to make sure these upcoming strikes go unperceived in our itineraries – this is old hat to those of us who are constantly dedicated to improving client experiences!

Happy travels,
