Lima
Peru’s vibrant metropolitan capital was founded in 1535 by Francisco Pizarro, and has been declared a World Cultural Heritage site for its extensive Spanish colonial architecture. Lima is a known as the gastronomic capital of Peru, boasting a plethora of excellent restaurants, but it is also a modern metropolis with exquisite five-star hotels, shopping, excellent architecture, archaeology, and culture.
Ranging from pre-Hispanic temples such as Pachacamac, the one-time destination for oracles and religious pilgrimages, to the Cathedral and the Convent of San Francisco, Lima offers the visitor a wealth of archeological sites and fine architecture. The surrounding areas and landscapes are unique and worth exploring.
Miraflores, the upscale commercial district, is not to be missed for its great shopping, restaurants, hotels, and nightspots. The beaches and shore-line cliffs offer many activities such as surfing, hang-gliding, and paragliding. San Isidro is known for its residential areas and parks, and also as a modern business and financial district. The Bohemian district of Barranco is home to artists, musicians, and exciting nightlife with live entertainment.

Historical attractions:
- Plaza Mayor: the main square, designed when the city was founded, boasts a beautiful bronze fountain built in 1650.
- Cathedral of Lima: Francisco Pizarro placed the cornerstone of this Cathedral in 1535.
- Church and Convent of San Francisco: complex famous for its catacombs.
- Sanctuary of Saint Rose of Lima: located where Isabel Flores de Oliva, “Saint Rose of Lima” lived.
- Archaeological sites: Huallamarca and Pucllana, located in the districts of San Isidro and Miraflores.
