The Experience
This sample itinerary exposes you to the fascinating cultures and traditions of Bolivia – from the cultural fusion of La Paz, to local healers, to the ancient ruins of Tiahuanaco, to the modern people living in ancient ways on the Islands of Lake Titicaca.
The Travel
Day 1: Arrival in La Paz
Welcome to Bolivia
Upon arrival in La Paz, you will be met by your Kuoda host, who will escort you to the Inca Utama Hotel on Lake Titicaca (approximately an hour and a half from the city)
After resting, you will have the rest of the day to visit the Andean Roots Cultural Complex, where you can examine displays about the cultural heritage of the Andes and enjoy the hotel’s amenities.

In the evening you will visit the native healers – the “Kallaways” – of Bolivia, who believe you must heal the soul in order to heal the body. You will meet “Tata Benjo,” who will cast his sacred coca leaves and read your future.
Day 2: Lake Titicaca
Islands of Lake Titicaca / Sustainable Tourism / Night Skies of Bolivia
After breakfast, you will board a hydrofoil to Quewaya Island to visit the Uru-Iruitos Floating Island greenhouses where the local community produces vegetables, flowers and strawberries. Listen to the ancient language still spoken by the people of this community.

You will continue on to Sun Island, where, according to legend, the son and daughter of the sun-god Inti came to earth and established the Inca empire. Your next stop will be Copacabana for a visit to the cathedral and its “dark virgin of the lake.” You will lunch at Uma Kollo restaurant on Sun Island before continuing to Moon Island to see the Sun Virgin’s Temple.

In the evening, you will be taken to the Alajpacha Native Observatory for an awe-inspiring view of the Bolivian night sky.
Day 3: The Altiplano to La Paz
Cultures in the Altiplano
After breakfast, you will depart for a visit to Tiahuanaco. Once the capital of a powerful civilization that flourished around 700 BC, it is considered by many to be the cradle of American civilization. You will visit the great pyramid, the Sun Gate, and the mysterious monoliths.

You will then continue to La Paz for an afternoon city tour. See the Indian Market, as well as the famous Witches´ Market, where locals sell items used in ceremonies and rituals, such as llama fetuses, colored candles, various herbs, and a profusion of incenses used for different purposes.

Late in the day, you will visit Moon Valley, a desert-like area outside of La Paz with bizarre and interesting rock formations.
